What is Self Delivery?

Self delivery is exactly what it sounds like: your customer places a delivery order on your store, you prepare the order and fulfill the delivery on your own. In other words, the order will not go through a 3rd party delivery provider and is fulfilled by yourself or the employees of your store.

Here’s how it works:

When an order is placed for delivery, your store will be alerted of the new order per usual, and the order will indicate it’s for delivery.

It will be entirely up to you to facilitate order fulfillment (i.e. prepare the order, have someone from your store make the delivery to the customer).

If this is your first time fulfilling self delivery orders, we have provided you with a few tips to manage this experience successfully below.

Enabling/Disabling Self Delivery

In order to enable/disable self delivery, please contact your customer success representative at Promenade and we will be able to get that turned on/off for you!

Please note that you can either choose to fulfill delivery orders through self delivery or 3rd party delivery but not both at the same time.

Managing Self Delivery

Once you have self delivery enabled, the following section will be made available to you on your Dashboard. You can make the following adjustments with the General Settings and Store Delivery sections here:

  • Set an Order Minimum
    • Customers have to meet this subtotal order minimum before a self delivery order can be placed
  • Add a zip code radius based on the zip code of your store
    • Input a zip code mile radius range
    • Click Add
  • Clear the zip codes listed for Store Delivery or add a new delivery zone
  • Set your own Delivery Fee
  • Enable/Disable Same day delivery
  • Save your Store Delivery settings

Tips to Improve the Self Delivery Experience

  • Communication is key.
    • Just like any order from DoorDash or Uber, you’d want to make sure your customer is informed of your estimated or actual arrival. Your customer may need time to get ready or to be available at home to receive their order.
  • Double check your order!
    • Be sure you have the correct order in hand when making self deliveries. Customers are more likely to leave a negative review when they receive an incorrect order by accident.
  • Implement a few safety/security measures for your self deliveries.
    • To prevent instances of fraudulent activity from the very few customers who may do it, we highly recommend taking a picture of your self delivery order while you are at the customer’s front door or while you are about to make the delivery. This will prevent any unsavory customers from attempting to get a refund for their orders by claiming non-receipt of your goods.
